Winter Camp Report-2011
January 31, 2012
Camp has a huge impact on our youth. And that impact was felt again in central Wisconsin during Winter Camp. The various activities provide opportunities for campers to have fun while they learn and develop relationships with each other, the adult staff and ministers.
Campers enjoyed activities like broomball (which is like hockey played without skates), volleyball, team challenge, dance, ice-skating, ultimate Frisbee,
flag football, capture the flag, amazing race, among other activities. Thirteen campers braved the winter cold by taking the winter camping challenge—learning cold weather camping and sleeping outside for a night.
The entire camp enjoyed the evening activities together. These included a bunco night, the variety show, “Be Ready to Give an Answer” Bible study, Sabbath games and the ever popular camp dance.
This year the Christian living theme was “A Compass to the Future.” Campers learned that the Bible is our guide, and our destination is the Kingdom of God. Campers filled out a survey at the end of camp. They were asked what they learned at camp. Here are some of the lessons listed.
“What I learned at camp”
- To trust the Bible.
- That the Bible is our compass and we should let the Word direct our path.
- How to be a godly gentleman.
- How to study the Bible better and how to better communicate with God.
- That I’m called to be in God’s Church.
- That Proverbs 31 women are to be virtuous and think of others before themselves.
- To really think about baptism more.
- It’s important to know what you believe, but it’s also important to know why you believe it.
- What I’m mainly taking home is the desire to study the Bible more.
- I learned about tools we can use to study the Bible.
- That wrong choices can really damage your life, but if we use God’s tools we can avoid disasters.
This year we added “First Things”—a time in the morning when the campers had time to read their Bibles and pray before heading out for the day’s activities. This helped them learn and practice putting God first.
We appreciate all the dedicated staff who volunteered to serve, teach and exemplify God’s way at camp this year. Camp truly makes a difference in the lives of the upcoming generation of members and leaders in the Church.
