Camp Heritage, Pennsylvania
For the 2012 summer camp season, COGWA Youth Camps will once again be able to use the fine facilities at Heritage Reservation, owned and operated by the Boy Scouts of America (Laurel Highlands Council). The camp and its surrounding area have served the Boy Scout programs from 1980 to the present time; church programs there date back to 1996.
The dates for camp this year will be Aug. 12 to 19. Campers should plan to arrive between 1 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 12. Staff members should plan to arrive for Sabbath services in the Uniontown, Pennsylvania, area on Aug. 11. This special Sabbath service will begin the staff orientation for the 2012 camp session. Both campers and staff will leave the camp on Sunday, Aug. 19.
Activities
Our activities this year will include water sports, riflery, archery, softball, field sports, mountain biking, volleyball and basketball. The schedule may be augmented by additional activities based on acceptance of qualified staff instructors and available time spaces. Christian Living classes will be a part of the daily schedule.
We are accepting campers from the ages of 12 through 18 (2012 high school graduates may still apply as campers). Campers will be divided into an Adventure program (for those aged 12 to 14) and a Challenge program (for those aged 15 to 18). In addition to on-site activities enjoyed by all campers, Challenge campers will spend a day white-water rafting on the Youghiogheny River.
Accommodations and transportation
Campers (and counselors) will be housed in two-person scout tents, set up on wooden platforms. Each tent has cots and mattresses provided; shower houses are located near each campsite. Activity and administrative staff will stay in on-campus buildings. Meals will be provided for everyone in the dining hall. Standard cost for campers this year will be $290; however, if payment is mailed on or before July 1, there will be a $30 discount (bringing the cost down to $260 per camper). Staff members are not charged for their stay.
If you are traveling to camp by air, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, airport is the nearest major commercial airport. Transportation will be provided to and from camp at no charge. Please indicate (with your application) that you are requesting transportation from the Pittsburgh airport to Camp Heritage. Those flying into any other airport will need to arrange their own transportation to camp.
