Challenger Program Running
June 1, 2026
The 2026 Challenger Program for young adults is now underway after 14 participants and 11 staff members arrived safely in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge today. The weather is beautiful, and the forecast looks promising for the rest of the week. We kicked off the program with an orientation focused on the CYC Code of Conduct and how it is applied in this unique setting, which is quite different from our teen camps.
Staff members then gave skills training presentations on backcountry campsite selection, tips for choosing and utilizing tents, and essential items to carry on hikes. We even held a team-building activity, called “spiderweb,” which was lots of fun.
After a delicious taco dinner, we gathered for an informative presentation on building campfires in the backcountry. During the discussion time that followed, we all sat around the fire and shared our personal goals in participating in the Challenger Program this year. Even though we are all interested in rock climbing, rappelling and kayaking, the big activities planned for the week, participants are particularly focused on building bonds and spending time with others of like mind in this beautiful, natural setting.
We would appreciate your continued prayers for the safety of all involved.
