Greetings from Camp Athens

July 28, 2026

Warm and sunny greetings from 126 campers and 85 staff at Camp Athens!

We’ve just concluded day one of camp and are about to head to the dining hall for dinner. All has gone well so far. Thankfully, the weather this week is predicted to be a bit cooler—if you can call the mid-90s cooler!—than what we experienced in East Texas last week (100s Fahrenheit).

We kicked off activities last night with an “all-camp spud speed challenge.” Campers and staff met at the pavilion by the lake just prior to sunset and competed by dorms in a washing and peeling potatoes contest—which, by the way, lightened the workload of our volunteer kitchen staff significantly!

This morning’s Compass Check focused on the existence of God and Christ, who created all things, as being the foundation upon which to build knowledge and understanding. Classes today went very well.

Spirits are high and the food is tasty! Thank you for your ongoing prayers for God’s protection, guidance and blessing on all of us at Camp Athens this week.
